Alex Hyne - Club Secretary


Alex is keen to empower individuals and make a positive change in their lives. He is a  helpful and supportive colleague who embraces change and enjoys a challenge. His key strengths are problem-solving, networking/engaging stakeholders in projects and ideas, and working well under pressure or to tight deadlines.


As an administrative professional and an Associate Member of the Institute of Administrative Management (AInstAM), Alex wanted to use his experiences to represent young professionals on the board. Alex believes passionately in the values of the Medway Business Club, learning from others, and giving everyone an opportunity to succeed personally and professionally.

He shows initiative and determination to make business processes more efficient and successfully execute his duties and responsibilities in a timely, organised and competent manner.

Lynsey Atkins  ACCA - Treasurer


Lynsey is a  Chartered Certified Accountant, and very proud to be working with Kreston Reeves, a firm of accountants, business and financial advisers who advise dynamic organisations, private individuals and families on their business, tax and wealth needs. Lynsey joined Kreston Reeves in 2011 and during this time has gained a wide range of experience working with owner managed businesses of various sizes and sectors.

Shelley Wilson - Committee Member


Shelley qualified as a primary teacher in 1999 and began her career in a residential primary school for excluded pupils in Chigwell. Since then she has taught in a variety of special needs establishments and worked with the full age range from 5-18, although always with pupils exhibiting challenging behaviour. 

In 2014 Shelley set up and ran a provision to reduce primary permanent exclusions in the Maidstone and Malling districts of Kent. In 2.5 years this figure was reduced to just 1. This provision is now available to support schools, academies and families in the Medway Towns. 

Dr Philip Corr - Vice President


Professor Corr has held several Professorial positions at top universities across the UK. His professional affiliations include: Chartered Psychologist of the British Psychological Society (BPS); Chartered Scientist of the Science Council; and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA). He is currently Professor of Psychology (Behavioural Economics) at City, University of London, where he is the Director a successful MSc in Behavioural Economics.


Philip is one of the Co-Founding Presidents of the British Society for the Psychology of Individual Differences (BSPID), and currently is the elected President of the International Society for the Study of Individual Differences (ISSID). Philip holds editorial positions with several scientific journals and he has written over 150 scientific articles and authored five books in the area of psychology - he is currently writing a book on behavioural economics for beginners.

Councillor David Carr  - Committee Member


David has held senior positions in three large corporations specialising in Marine engineering and Nuclear reactor technology, power station construction, aeroplane and warfare electronics and is a Member of Institute of Nuclear Engineering.

In 2017 he was elected a Councillor for Rainham North ward in Medway, and is also  a Director Trustee of Chatham Historic Dockyard, a member of Kent and Medway Fire and Rescue Authority and an Executive board member for the Association of Port Health Authorities. In 2008 to 2009, Councillor Carr was elected to the office of Mayor of Medway, the highest position in the Unitary Authority of Medway.

Neil Shorthouse - Committee Member


A Fellow of Institute of Hospitality, with an international career spanning over 20 years within both the Hospitality & Cruise Industries, with a strong focus on Human Resources, Talent Development, Front of House Operations & Internal Audit processes.  Neil has played a key part in a number of resort openings within the Indian Ocean and The United Arab Emirates, along with working on the development and set-up of a Cruise Line to be based in SE Asia. Neil has also formed part a SQM/SMS project team, along with conducting companywide audits that included offices within Europe as well as on a fleet of ships.

Having recently returned back to the Medway Towns, and by bringing together his knowledge, experience and networks, he set up a company that focuses on bespoke projects, recruitment, training, and internal audits processes.  Neil is looking forward to working with local businesses, as well as inspiring students, in relation to working within a ‘Hospitality’ focused career.

Mrs Margaret Wilson - Founding President


Margaret has worked in the Higher Education sector for over 20 years, laterly in senior executive roles, currently at Regent's University London Business School. She has also set-up and managed several small buisnesses, including catering, web-building and distribution of psychology-related goods and services.  Her latest project is opeing an Artisan Coffe Shop in June in one of the Medway Towns.


Margaret set up the Medway Business Club to bring successful business people in the area together, not only for business networking but also for the benefit of the Medway economy but also to contribute to the community with her focus on making opportunities available to young people in the form of start-up funding, entrepreneurship opportunities and funding and/or mentoring, and also opportunities for the Arts and Sports in Medway.

Simon O'Connell  - Committee Member


Simon started in financial services in 1987 working in pension administration, later rising to Head of Pensions. He then worked for 4 years in a pension actuarial department before joining an IFA as an adviser in 2002. He joined LEBC and helped set up the Maidstone branch in 2015. Simon is the pensions on divorce specialist for the Maidstone branch.


Simon is responsible for setting the branch objectives and strategy, recruitment, appraisals and pay reviews.


Simon’s main focus is advising private clients and business owners on retirement planning, Inheritance Tax mitigation and investments.
